Hi there- I hope you are well. I just wanted to reach out with a couple of updates on Start Recovery as we’re moving into the season of festivities and end of year celebrations. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this update and I hope you have a wonderful, safe and sober end to your year.
My main message is to let you know that I am back at work and booking sessions again after a few weeks away having had a hip replacement. I have also changed my mobile number attached to the business to 07305 109824, so please update in your devices if you have it stored - much appreciated!
I am off my crutches and back on my feet now, filled with more focus and energy to bring into my sessions and into my own learning & development. When we have major surgery, or recovering from an illness, trauma or grief of any kind its an opportunity for growth and reflection. When we are forced into a situation where we have to slow down!
My new book - " How To Train Your Earworm & Stop Drinking Alcohol" has been put back to 2025 as I am developing my Online IAC© approach programme alongside the book release, and I will be releasing more information about that shortly. The book is finished, we’re tweaking the design aspects as we need to get it right to have the biggest impact. Its definitely not an academic book, its an accesible workbook with a 3 step program based on my IAC approach, designed for people in early recovery, (or people who are seriously considering addressing their addictive behaviours).
In the book I use the Earworm concept (like when you get a hooky pop tune stuck in your head all day) for our thoughts, urges and cravings as a way for people to start to identify early sub-conscious thought patterns. It turns out books take a long time to write! I spent every Monday for about 2 and a half years writing it, with my friend and Education Author Ros Wilson and just under a year testing it (with my clients) and editing etc. Ros has been a huge inspiration to me as she has “gently pushed” me to write the book and get IAC formulated into a useable, affordable, helpful book and online programme.
I also wanted to mention that whilst attending an addiction talk about stigma and addiction at the Leeds Playhouse in October with among others, speakers were Matt Willis and Chris Sylvester. I really enjoyed the openness of the night and all the speakers but I was particularly impressed with fellow Yorkshireman Chris’s story and the way he is working with the Leeds recovery community and broader communities. I met Chris and Matt after the talk briefly, and then took a visit to see Chris’s operation at the Getting Clean HQ in Water Lane … (which is a great address btw Chris for a soap business)! Chris and his team help people in early recovery to engage with the local community and much more. These guys have got it right! Firstly the amazing smells hit you when you walk through the door into the office units. The place was buzzing with people packing beautiful hand made, all natural soap to ship out. I had a lovely meeting with the operations manager and Chris and wanted to show my support by sharing the link to buy some amazing, ethical in every way possible soap for xmas or any other celebration. You can buy this lovely soap here for xmas presents or for yourself!
If you do want or need to contact my mobile number or WhatsApp then please amend your details you have saved for Start Recovery to 07305 109824. My landline number stays the same 0113 328 0211, email or WhatsApp will get the quickest response from me as I am usually back to back through the day with clients.
Remember - If you have ever used my services before, or you are new to the site, then I am always here for any questions or updates (I love receiving updates from past clients with sober anniversary's 😁) . The best way to contact me is via email or WhatsApp.
Have a happy, safe and sober holiday season.
All the best x
Mark.
