North Leeds Drug and Alcohol counselling Services, Start Recovery, takes on a new Specialist Addiction Counsellor this April. Start Recovery deliver private specialist addictions counselling to people struggling with alcoholism, drug problems and gambling addiction in the Leeds and West Yorkshire areas.
Start Recovery's Owner and Addiction Therapist Mark Franklin says, "I am super excited to announce a new highly experienced team member joining the expanding Start Recovery family of Counsellors and Therapists". Suzie Shenderey originally trained as a GP and worked as a Clinical Psychiatrist at Leeds Addiction Unit. Suzie took time out to concentrate on bringing up her young family, Is a qualified Hypnotherapist, and has recently retrained as a Psychotherapist.
Suzie says "I originally trained as a medical doctor and worked as a psychiatrist with a specialist interest in addictions. I left this role 12 years ago to look after my young family.
I also now work as a tutor and case study marker for Chrysalis Courses UK.
I have experience of working with a wide range of issues from anxiety and depression to alcoholism and gambling addiction. I consider myself to be a holistic therapist and I have a particular interest in the mind body connection. My experience of working as a doctor means that I have a good understanding of the working of the human body, drug treatments and ethics.
The main ethos of my practice is person centred and I have experience of working with solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. I am also a trained mindfulness practitioner with experience of teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programmes.
When working with clients I am able to use a wide range of therapeutic techniques and tailor my approach to the individual. I am a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society and one of their Ambassadors".
