Mark Franklin S.A.C Dip

Alcohol and substance misuse counsellor

My experience includes working for drug and alcohol services in London and Yorkshire, where I have worked with a diverse cross-section of people from all different backgrounds and communities. I worked with the Drug Intervention Programme team within addiction services in Ealing, where I helped people with drug and alcohol problems to talk about their experiences and learn to express rather than  repress or surpress their emotions.

With over 12 years in the field, My qualifications include a level 4 diploma in Drug and alcohol counselling and I have had extensive training from some of the best addiction and trauma specialists in the world, including Dr Gabor Maté,  Stephen Porges, PhD, Pat Ogden, PhD, Tommy Rosen and Dr Joe Dispenza. I continue to develop my style, learning and knowledge as an ongoing process, to deliver the most up-to-date information and data available to the client.

I have experience in residential rehabs, psychiatric hospital wards, detox units, day programmes, facilitating groups and creative therapies. I have a special interest in addictions, emotions and the emotional self, trauma and the latest developments in neuroscience related to addictive tendencies.

I utilise a combination of techniques that include C.B.T, R.E.B.T and Client-Centred therapies alongside relaxation techniques/mindfulness, breathwork and practical neuroscientific evidence-based information. I am fully committed to keeping up to date with all the latest research and developments within the field of Addictions and . I continue my studies with completed modules including; Social Sciences, Brain, Mind and Mental Health,  Mental Health Approaches, Investigating Psychology, Counselling Fear and Sadness, and Exploring Philosophy.

I have fully enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked.

I was awarded a Prestige Livewire Business award in October 2020 for Best in Counselling Services for Leeds and West Yorkshire. I have received further awards for the best Leeds area alcohol help and counselling in 2021 and 2022.

In 2023 and 2024 I have been working on my new book "Sober Days - How To Train Your Earworm & Stop Drinking Alcohol" and my 3-step technique I.A.Ctm (Identify, Acknowledge and Change). This should be available late 2024.

I am also a fully trained level 1 Kundalini Yoga teacher with a focus on recovery. I offer a clear aftercare learning pathway from being in early recovery from addictions to the next steps of implementing breath, exercise and positive routines into daily life. (please note that the recovery yoga classes are male only classes at present).

Reaching out and finding the right help for you is the first hurdle.

Once you have the correct support and tools in place you can move into sustained recovery.

Everybody is different but there are common similarities between people with drink or drug problems.

That first contact with somebody who understands can often make the difference between you continuing to act out your learned behaviours or choosing to get better.

In the case of family members being involved, then access to family sessions are always led by the individual who is experiencing the active addiction, meaning that I need written acknowledgement from my clients that they are happy for family members to receive family support sessions.
